Scholarship Details for 2024 ARES Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees/Continuing Education Scholarship For International Students

Under the ARES 2024-2025 cooperation program, international training scholarships offer three types of training:

  • Advanced Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees: These are inter-institutional training programs conducted over one academic year, culminating in the award of an academic degree.
  • Continuing Education Programs: These are shorter, more practical programs lasting from 2 to 6 months, leading to the issuance of a certificate.

Scholarship Requirements:

To be eligible for the ARES Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a national, residing, and working in one of the following countries: Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cuba, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Haiti, Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Mozambique, Nepal, Niger, Peru, Philippines, Republic of Guinea (Conakry), Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Vietnam, or Zimbabwe.
  • Hold a diploma equivalent to a graduate-level degree (300 credits ECTS) from Belgian university studies for advanced master’s and continuing education courses (equivalent to Bac+5). For advanced bachelor’s programs (equivalent to Bac+3), applicants should hold a diploma equivalent to an undergraduate-level degree (180 credits ECTS). The candidate must have earned the relevant academic degree within a maximum of 20 years at the start of the course, with the possibility of an additional year due to childbirth and/or adoption.
  • Possess relevant professional experience in an ARES partner country, amounting to at least two years after completing graduate studies for advanced bachelor’s degrees and after postgraduate studies for advanced master’s and continuing education courses.
  • Complete the application in the language of instruction for the chosen training program and demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken communication in that language. Proficiency in French is beneficial for effective integration into daily life in Belgium.
  • Apply for only one training course.

Scholarship Duration and Reward

Every year, ARES awards approximately 130 Master’s and Bachelor’s scholarships as well as 70 Continuing Education scholarships to individuals from its partner countries. These scholarships include coverage for international travel expenses, a living allowance, exceptional costs associated with visa applications, and insurance costs..

Required Documents

To apply, candidates must be ready to submit the following documents;

  • 2 letters of recommendation (academic and/or professional);
  • Certified copies of the original diplomas;
  • Certified copies of the original transcripts for all years;
  • Proof of occupation for the last 5 years;
  • Certificate of nationality or copy of passport;
  • Pre-project (for certain courses – see the admission conditions specific to the courses).
