Details for 2024 UNESCO Young Professionals Programme (YPP) For Young Graduates
- UNESCO, short for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, is dedicated to promoting global peace through international collaboration in the fields of Education, Science, and Culture.
- UNESCO’s initiatives actively contribute to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals outlined in Agenda 2030, which was adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015. Recognizing that governmental political and economic agreements alone are insufficient to secure enduring and genuine support from people, UNESCO emphasizes that peace should be rooted in dialogue and mutual understanding. It should be constructed upon the intellectual and moral unity of humanity.
To be eligible for this program, you must:
- Nationality: Applicants must hold citizenship in non- and under-represented Member States of UNESCO.
- Age: Must be below 32 years of age (inclusive).
- Education: Possession of an advanced university degree in fields such as education, culture, science, social and human sciences, communication, or a related area pertinent to the management and administration of international organizations. Detailed requirements will be specified in the respective vacancy announcement.
- Languages: Proficiency in either English or French is essential, and familiarity with both official working languages is advantageous. Additionally, competence in Spanish, Russian, Arabic, or Chinese is considered an extra asset.
- Prior Experience: While prior professional experience is advantageous, it is not obligatory for application.

All applications are reviewed by a committee which will establish a shortlist based on: Academic qualifications, Motivation/statement of interest, Presentation of the application, Language and writing skills, Level of professional experience.
- Interviews and evaluation
The selection process involves shortlisted candidates participating in a video interview followed by a panel interview. During these interviews, candidates have the chance to showcase their communication abilities, teamwork, analytical skills, initiative, creativity, and adaptability.
In addition to interviews, candidates may be subjected to tests to assess their relevant competencies and proficiency in UNESCO’s official working languages, which are English and French.
Successful candidates will receive a formal letter of appointment from UNESCO. In cases where candidates are not selected, UNESCO will notify the respective National Commissions and Permanent Delegations accordingly.
Method of Application
- Candidates should submit their applications to their country’s National Commission or Permanent Delegation. These national bodies will review all applications and then provide a list of candidates to UNESCO’s Bureau of Human Resources Management.
- Please note that UNESCO does not accept applications sent directly to the organization; they should be routed through the National Commission or Permanent Delegation of the applicant’s country of citizenship.
