Scholarship Details for 2024 ARES Scholarships For Developing Countries

The ARES scholarships present you with the chance to enroll in a one-year advanced bachelor’s or master’s degree program, or a 2-to-6-month continuing education program offered by higher education institutions in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, Belgium. These scholarships cover various eligible fields such as aquaculture, health, food technology, economics, international development, GIS, information technology, agriculture, environment, human rights, microfinance, and more. Scholarship Requirements:

In order to qualify for this scholarship, you must:

  1. Be a citizen, reside in, and work in one of the following countries: Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cuba, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Haiti, Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Mozambique, Nepal, Niger, Peru, Philippines, Republic of Guinea (Conakry), Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Vietnam, or Zimbabwe.
  2. Possess a diploma equivalent to a graduate-level degree (300 credits ECTS) from Belgian university studies for advanced master’s and continuing education courses (equivalent to Bac+5). Hold a diploma equivalent to an undergraduate-level degree (180 credits ECTS) for advanced bachelor’s programs (equivalent to Bac+3). The candidate must have obtained the relevant academic degree within a maximum of 20 years from the start of the course. This maximum period can be extended by one year due to childbirth and/or adoption.
  3. Have relevant professional experience in an ARES partner country of at least two years after completing graduate studies for advanced bachelor’s programs, or after postgraduate studies for advanced master’s and continuing education courses.
  4. Complete the application in the language of instruction for the chosen training program and demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken communication. Additionally, having a basic understanding of French is beneficial for better integration into daily life in Belgium.
  5. Apply for only one training course. Applicants should not secure prior admission to a French-speaking institution in Belgium in order to be eligible for an ARES scholarship.

130 Bachelor’s and Masters scholarships and 70 continuing education scholarships are available.

Scholarship value/inclusions:

The scholarship includes coverage for international travel expenses, a living allowance, registration fees, visa costs, insurance, and more.

To apply for the scholarship, you must create an online GIRAF account and complete the scholarship application form. All applications must be submitted by 17th November 2023 at 12 pm (Belgian time, UTC+1).
