The University of Ottawa Undergraduate Scholarship is a renewable scholarship based on academic performance, available to students from Africa, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, South Korea, India, or Bangladesh, who are pursuing studies in English. This renewable scholarship is open to international students hailing from African countries. It is applicable to those who have been admitted in the Fall 2024 term (with a September start date) or later and have achieved an admission average of 80% or higher. Eligible students must also be enrolled in one of the specified undergraduate programs within the faculties of Engineering, Science, or Social Sciences.

This scholarship provides substantial financial support for their education, resulting in a reduction of tuition fees ranging from $12,000 to $25,000 annually, depending on the program. The scholarship is available in two categories: excellence scholarships and entrance scholarships

Scholarship Details for 2024 University Of Ottawa Undergraduate Scholarship For International Students

All eligible students who meet the criteria for this scholarship will automatically receive it upon their enrollment at the University. The scholarship will be applied directly to their tuition fees. Please note that the Entrance scholarship cannot be combined with the Excellence Scholarship for African Students Studying in English.

This scholarship program is recognized as one of the most generous in Canada. It not only acknowledges your academic accomplishments prior to university but also rewards your achievements throughout each term of full-time study at the University. This new scholarship opportunity aims to provide African students studying in English access to various pilot programs within three faculties at a significantly reduced tuition cost.

Excellence scholarships are granted through a competitive selection process among the top candidates who have an admission average of 90% or higher, have applied for admission by April 1, 2024, and have had their admission processed by April 15, 2024. Preference will be given to candidates who have chosen the University of Ottawa as their first-choice institution. Recipients must commence their program in September. To ensure diversity and maximize opportunities, each faculty will aim to distribute the same number of scholarships.

Scholarship Requirements

All eligible students will be automatically considered for this scholarship and will be informed of their eligibility upon admission. While no separate application is needed for this scholarship, recipients will be requested to provide proof of citizenship in an African country or territory before receiving their initial scholarship installments.Top of

The applicant must:

  1. be an international student with a valid study permit;
  2. have citizenship from one of the countries in Africa, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia or Vietnam;
  3. be enrolled full-time; and
  4. For the Entrance scholarship: have an admission average of 89.99% or lower once converted in our grading scale
  5. For the Excellence scholarship: have an admission average of a minimum of 90% once converted in our grading
  6. be newly admitted in one of the following undergraduate programs offered in English or with the French Immersion
  • Engineering: Civil Engineering; Chemical Engineering
    • Social sciences: Sociology; Anthropology; International Development and Globalization; Conflict Studies; Public Administration
    • Sciences: All programs except the Honours BSc in Biochemistry / BASc in Chemical Engineering; Honours BSc in Physics/BASc in Electrical Engineering; and Honours BSc in Ophthalmic Medical Technology

Scholarship Duration and Reward

The Entrance and Excellence Scholarships will offer new students a four-year scholarship to partially cover their university tuition expenses. All amounts mentioned are in Canadian dollars. These scholarships are eligible for renewal for up to 12 academic terms.

Method of Application

  1. Begin by submitting your application on
  2. Once your application is received by the University, you will be assigned a Student Number. You can use this Student Number to log in to the school’s portal, UOZone, where you will submit your academic results and required documents for review.
