Following the program, it is anticipated that these scholars will return to their home countries, where they will either embark on entrepreneurial endeavors or engage in various health-related careers. Their aim is to drive improved healthcare outcomes within their nations upon successfully completing their studies.

Scholarship Details for 2024 University of Toronto (U of T) Mastercard Scholarships For African Students

The Mastercard Foundation is a private foundation headquartered in Toronto, Canada, driven by a vision to empower all individuals to access learning and thrive. In partnership with a worldwide network of educational institutions and non-governmental organizations, the Foundation champions financial inclusion and prosperity for individuals facing economic hardships.

The Foundation firmly believes that the future of Africa hinges on its youth, especially those who demonstrate academic excellence and a dedication to making meaningful contributions to their homelands.

Scholarship Requirements:

To be considered for the IMES, you must:

  • Be new to UBC, entering directly from secondary school.
  • Be an international student who will be studying at UBC on a Canadian study permit (student visa). (Changes to your citizenship status will affect your IMES eligibility.)
  • Demonstrate exceptional academic achievement and intellectual promise, as well as impressive extracurricular and community involvement.
  • Not be nominated for a need-and-merit-based International Scholars
  • Apply to UBC by January 15.

Scholarship Duration and Reward

Scholars in the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at U of T are provided with:

  • full financial assistance for tuition,
  • travel expenses to Canada (including obtaining a passport, visa application fees),
  • housing, course materials, health insurance, laptop, food, books, and other expenses for the duration of their graduate degrees.
